The Bible contains many instances where significant events have taken place in an 'upper room', not just the Jerusalem Upper Room. It seemed good to recount several of these. I've included scripture, a precis and some themes in each instance.
Great to see the live feed videos added to Youtube from the 2017 Convocation at Bethel Convention Centre in Birmingham! Always good to see people from Farnborough congregation there.
Walking the dog at 6am this morning and it was good to see, and feel some rain coming down after what's been a warm and muggy time. One of the routes we take to walk the dog goes past the entrance to the school where we meet as a church. It was lovely to see the rain and the sun mixing together to form a rainbow over where we meet!
We have the opportunity to take the gospel into Farnborough town centre with gospel performances.
In 2016 our Christmas meal was held in Reading town centre.
We always give God thanks and praise for the gifts he gives to His church! Praise and worship form an integral part of our communion with God and it is one where we have a wonderful opportunity to come together as brothers and sisters in unity. There are many aspects of worship such as awakening, assurance, joy which God blesses us with even though the primary focus of our worship is God himself.
The church is blessed with so many people who have taken seriously the gift given to them in the ability to enable worship in terms of musicianship, leadership, music and songwriting.
One worship song/hymn which touches our heart here at Hope Pentecostal Community Church is called Speak, O Lord which was written by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend. We will be looking to the words in this song for encouragement during 2017 so when you visit us then there's a good chance you will hear it being played by our worship team.
Here's the song on Youtube sung by Kirsten Getty.
It's always good to see Hope Pentecostal Community Church making the news, for the right reasons!
Here's a link from The Meads Farnborough mentioning the Community Gospel Choir!
I grew up in a family where God wasn't at the centre of the family. That's not to say love wasn't shown or I was neglected! Far from it. It's just the way it was.
For people who haven't been to a church they often wonder what actually happens in a service. When you see a church on television more often than not it's in a dedicated building and they may be officials in robes, sometimes speaking in a very antiquated way. Meeting in a school the services at HPCC are somewhat more simple.
Sunday Morning Service
You will see from our Service Times that we begin with a time of worship. This is where a person or group of people who have been set aside and are gifted with the capability will lead the congregation in songs and hymns. All of are freely called to worship and you won't be expected to stand at the front and lead us in a rousing rendition of some hymn or worship song. Chairs are set up for the service and you are free to be seated wherever you want or feel comfortable.
At some point there may be a collection. This is entirely voluntary and there is no compulsion. No-one will be offended if you don't put anything in!
There will also be some notices regarding events and news. May be interesting for you, then again maybe not.
As is common in all Christian churches there will be a time that the Word of God will be shared, This will usually be by the Pastor, a visiting speaker or someone from the congregation who has been called to preach. As a church we adhere to Biblical principles and believe that the Word of God in His Bible is relevant and living for today and our circumstances.
There will also be time of prayer. This will usually be lead from the front and is often spontaneous in who prays.
And once a month we will extend the service so we can share a cup of tea and some biscuits after the service.
Wednesday Evening Service
You may be aware that we also meet on a Wednesday evening at the school. These meetings are open to all but they often focus on the internal workings of the church like finance and event planning. They may or not be useful for you so please check our Events page beforehand.
We do hope that you will feel led to join with us and look forward to seeing you, there is a warm welcome waiting!
