Truth and Heavenly Hope

David Shepherd

In the midst of our challenging times and circumstances, we have God's Word constantly reassuring us that we can participate in His invincible Life, when we put our trust in Christ.

By God's grace, my devotional posts here are dedicated to providing you with encouragement to discover ever more of His Life which surpasses all circumstances through comfort, counsel and reassurance in equal measure.

'The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life's worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.' (Luke 8:14)

In continuing our review of the parable of the sower (Luke 8:5-8), the path represents hostile prejudice against the message of Christ.

I enjoy creative writing and singing, but I haven't done much songwriting. Despite this, there have been few times when God has blessed me with both the music and lyrics to songs of Christian hope.

‘A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.’ (Luke 8:5 – 8)

In Christ's parable of the pearl of great price (Matthew 13:45-46, perhaps His shortest spiritual illustration), He describes an avid merchant.
